To open Garmin IMG map file.
File | Close
To close any existing opened map.
Tools | View | Fit
Resize the map to fit the whole screen. It is useful when user want to see the whole map.
Tools | View | Rotate
To rotate the opened map at any angle. There are 2 options available.
i) Rotate with respect to the North
ii) Rotate with respect to the current map angle

Below is an example of map being rotated 45° with respect to the North. The center of rotation is at the center of the screen.

Tools | GPS | Setting 
This is the page where user do any GPS settings.
i) COM Page

Port: COM/Serial port where the GPS receiver is connected to.
Baud Rate: The baud rate of the COM port.
Log track: Check this if you wish to log the GPS track.

Once checked, the button will be enabled. Click on it and select the file which you wish to save the track log. The program will save whatever is being output from the GPS receiver. You can open the saved track log using any word processing software.
(Note: If you wish to log the GPS track, you have to do it be before connecting to the GPS)
ii) GPS Information Page

Information available
a) Longitude
b) Latitude
c) Speed
d) Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP)
e) Horizontal Dilution of Precision (HDOP)
f) Vertical Dilution of Precision (VDOP)
g) Direction of travel
h) Altitude
i) Date and time
j) Number of satellites in view
k) Satellite signal strength
iii) NMEA Page

This page will show the NMEA protocol input from the GPS receiver. Different sentence will be shown in different colour.
Tools | GPS | Playback
This command is for user to do a play back with the track log file being saved previously. When user selects the command, a mini player will popup.

- Open track log file
- Play / Start
- Pause
- Stop
- Erase track line on the map
- 1 times (Normal Speed, 1 GPS position per second)
- 2 times (100% faster, 2 GPS position per second)
- 3 times (200% faster, 3 GPS position per second)
- 4 times (300% faster, 4 GPS position per second)
Tools | GPS | Fix Location 
This command can only be used when GPS is connected or during GPS playback.
This feature allow user to fix the GPS position on any point of the screen.
By default, every time the GPS/Playback start, the software will automatically show the
GPS position at the center of the screen. User can change the position by using it
together with the panning toolbar button.
Just tab on the screen and drag it to the position you desire. (Tips: By pinning the GPS position at
the bottom of the screen will allow you to see further on what is in front when use together
with the Track up command.

Tools | GPS | Track up
This command will auto rotate the map so that the GPS position pointer will
always point vertically upright. In this way, you don’t need to rotate your PDA
to see where you are going or see what is in front.
Tools | GPS | Center Location
Use this command when you want to show the GPS position pointer as the center of the screen.
(Note: This command will not work if there is no GPS position received from the receiver yet)
Tools | GPS | Clear Track
This command is for clearing the GPS track/trace.
Tools | Search
Can be use to search for anything in the map. The search is limited to 300 items.
When that happened, please be more specific in the search text entered.
There are 3 types of results:
i) - Region
ii) - Roads / Lines
iii) - POIs
Founded item will be shown at:
i) - a center
being calculated base on the minimum (Longitude, Latitude) and maximum(Longitude, Latitude)
of all the points available.
ii) - POIs will be display at the center of the screen.
Tools | Goto Pos
This command is useful when you have a set of GPS coordinates (Longitude and Latitude)
and wants to check where the position is on the map. The program accepts 2 types
of inputs which are:
i) Hours, Minutes and Seconds
ii) Degree
Tools | Add Route
This command is for user to add waypoints to the map. When user selects the command,
a helper dialog box will popup.

- Add waypoint
- Create a route with multiple waypoints
- Waypoint selection. Selected waypoints will be
highlighted and can be moved or deleted.
- Remove the selected/highlighted waypoint
 
Tools | Options | Levels
This is a special feature of Garmin maps.
User is able to select any map Level at any zoom scale. The number of levels
varies for different maps. The level of details increases as the Level decreases.
That means Level 0 is the most detailed level. (Note: try not to show detailed
Level (example Level 0) at high zoom scale because this will slow down the render
speed of the map as more items need to be drawn).

To show or hide the map scale
Tools | Options | Show GPS Info
To show or hide the GPS information which are located at the top and bottom of the screen.
Tools | Options | Auto Show POIs
By default, all POIs will be shown on only at 300m zoom scale and below.
This is to prevent of POIs clustering together in city maps.
Uncheck the menu if you wish to see all the POIs available at the current Garmin map Level.
(Note: try not to show the POIs at high zoom scale because this will slow down the render
speed of the map as more things need to be drawn).

Tools | Options | Full Screen
Full screen mode enable user to see more out of the limited PDA screen.
When full screen is selected, titlebar of the window will be hiden.
After 1 minute of inactivity, the command toolbar will also be hidden and the map will occupy
full screen.

Tools | Options | Preferences
In the Preferences property sheet, user can customised settings to his/her liking.
i) QKey (Quick Key) Tab
By using QKey, user can assign commonly used command to PDA’s hardware buttons.
Current there are 8 QKeys available for user to assign but it depend on how many
hardware button does the PDA have. (Note: For PDA phone, the Call and Hang up
hardware button cannot be assigned)
To assign QKey
a) First decide which QKey you wish to assign.
b) Tap on the drop-down list and select the command to be assigned.
c) Tap on the Key next the command (It will turn green)
d) Press the hardware button you wish to assign the command to. The Key value should
change if a different hardware button is depressed. If the hardware button have been
assigned to another command, the previously assigned command key will be unassigned (Key will be empty).

ii) Legend Tab
User is able to change the map display here. There are 3 categories available, regions, lines/roads
and POIs
a) Regions
User can decide whether to display a particular type of region on the map by checking the
checkbox beside which shown item. User can also change the colour of the region
by double tapping on the colour box. A colour table dialog box will popup and user just need to
select the desired colour and press ok. (Note: For PocketPC 2003 SE PDA, a large colour table will be shown)

b) Lines/Roads
User can decide whether to display a particular type of line/road on the map by checking
the checkbox beside which shown item. User can also change the colour of the line/road by
double tapping on the colour box. A colour table dialog box will popup and user just need
to select the desired colour and press ok. (Note: For PocketPC 2003 SE PDA, a large
colour table will be shown)

c) POIs
User can only decide whether to display a particular type of POIs on the map by checking
the checkbox beside which shown item. (Note: Due to the long list of POIs available,
currently, no setting in this page will be saved)

iii) Font Tab
User can decide whether to display a particular type text on the map by checking the
checkbox beside which shown item. To change the font, just double tap on the colour box.
A font selection dialog box will popup.

iv) Scale Tab
As the content of every map is different, there is a need for user to be able to control
specifically what (object) should display at the specific zoom scale. To be able to
change the zoom scale, user first need to checked the Customerise checkbox (first column) and
the Scale (third column) will then be enabled. Next tab on the Scale cell to change the value
(unit is in meter). (Note: After changing the Scale value, remember to tab anywhere outside
the cell to save the changed value. Font size will change back).
